at work, im an air marshal. but you can call me maria. my full name however, is maria chloe koudis. nicknames? im not too fussed, marie, maria? whatever you want.

i really like that name. so how old are you, and when were you born?

thank you very much. well, im twenty one. twenty two in one week though! how exciting! i was born in athens, greece. hence my last name. my father was greek but my mother american and i grew up in america so go figure.

lovely. so it's the end of the world, who do you belong to?

im in the military. the british air force to be precise. im an air marshal, so you know, pretty high up there. it took a lot of hard work, believe me. not that ranks matter very much anymore...

that sounds just great. now in one word, how would you describe yourself?

one word? really? oh erm... then i'd have to say determined.

uh-huh, any big historic events you'd like to share?

well, like i said, i was born in athens but i moved to america when i was four. so yes, i can speak greek and english. but english is my first language really as i've grown up around it. we lived in new york which was perfect. i was always an incredibly smart child. so i obviously had a bright future ahead of me. i went to university a year early so i finished when i was twenty. two years ago. thats when the bombs occured. but before that i went home to new york and lived with my parents for two months when i got myself hired by the english air force. informally, the raf. i was pretty high up in the ranks when i started as a group captain but it was only half way through the ranks. but within six months i'd managed to gain myself three promotions. i knew what i was doing and i was good at my job. i was now an air marshal so getting paid a huge amount. then the bombs happened. i'd taken my squad to the highlands of scotland for the day. our planes at the foot of the mountain. everything around us exploded. it was... terrifying. but all of us were trained and our instincts kicked in. we ran back to our planes and managed to take off in the soot and smoke which was dangerous in itself. well, out of seven of us, five managed to take off. we all had huge amounts of fuel so flew to the christmas islands which seemed to be unaffected by the bombing. we had no contacts. we didn't know what had happened. we waited a few days while some of the smoke subsided and refilled our planes and headed off to america. i knew no one would be left. my parents. nothing. we we headed of in search of survivors. only two of us landed in america. me and my vice captain. we managed to land in new york city, the one place i didnt want to go. everything was demolished. however, we managed to come across some survivors. and this is how i am now.
