Roland sat on the bank of the river watching the current. He enjoyed coming here because the water seemed to be the only thing untouched by the bombs...it ran clear and clean and he liked picking out the multicolored rocks. It was a good place to clear ones head.

Arienne-Faith ambled along the river with her two-year-old daughter sleeping on her back. She herself had been walking since broad daylight the day before last. Her crystal blue eyes struggled to keep open, causing her to gaze at the world from behind dark lashes. Her copper ringlets gleamed under the sunlight and she was nearly collapsing in exhaustion. All she needed was a place to sleep.

Roland slid down the bank and stuck his bare feet into the river. Carefully he pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his shirt pocket and brought it to his lips. He put the pack back and lit it with the lighter from the same pocket. After taking a long inhale of nicotene Roland laid back against the soft ground.

Arienne-Faith platted farther along until a dark figure in the distance manifested itself. He was laying on the ground on the shore of the river. There was a cigarette in his hand, but Arienne-Faith widened her eyes. It was a human. And from the looks of it, it was not one from the Resistance. Maybe he could offer her a place to stay.
"Hey!" Arienne-Faith called out in her trilling high soprano voice.

Roland was brought out of his thoughts. He looked up to see the comely woman standing there. "Hello." He offered with a hand wave.

Arienne-Faith pondered running ahead, but she voted against herself due to the fact that she was carrying her sleeping daughter on her back. She gazed at the stranger with a look of hope.
"Hello... I'm Arienne. This is my daughter, Krysten... Do you know a place we could sleep at all?"

Roland sat up and removed the cigarette from his mouth. "I uh," He went to answer but then thought better of it. She may have a child on her back but that didn't make her any less dangerous. "Are you part of the Resistance?"

Arienne-Faith paused mid-step, jostling her daughter to quickly quiet her subtle whimpers. She turned to face the stranger, agony pouring out of her every core. "No... No... I'm not. Those damned people are responsible for the death of my husband."

"Then maybe," Roland shrugged. "I don't know many places around here that take refugees in anymore. But I've got an extra room if you're interested. It's really small and there isn't any electricy."

Arienne nodded in relief as she now placed her awake daughter on the ground. "I just need a place to sleep and we will be out of your hair in no time."
